I was the Youth Education and Outreach intern at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and I loved every moment of it. The Lab of Ornithology is a world leader in the study, appreciation, and conservation of birds.
My internship began with a program called, Kids Discover the Trail. It's a county-wide program that links the education centers in Tompkins County together. Elementary and middle-school students are required to attend field trips each year to the different education centers. My responsibility for the Kids Discover the Trail program at the Lab of Ornithology was to lead students on guided habitat walks and practice citizen science techniques.
I also helped plan the Lab's annual Migration Celebration, which celebrates Spring and the return of the songbirds. I have prepared documents, publicized, and created new exhibits for this event.
I loved my time at the Lab of Ornithology. I think it's a magical place, that always gives you a different experience each time you're there.
